When I read what this weeks theme was I instantly knew which picture I was going to use. Not because of the blue backdrop (that was crazy wrinkled and I did my best at cloning), and perhaps not because of the blue icing on his face, but mostly because of his 'blue' mood. This picture was made for this theme.
This little guy came in for 1st year pictures so we had a 'smash the cupcake' session. Right at the end we took it away from him, and I got this shot, and love it. I love crying pictures. Babies don't smile and laugh all the time so why only have pictures of that?

I am currently editing a lot of photos. A lot. I complain about it, but secretly, I love it. I also love learning about it. I've grown a lot in the past 8 or so months, and when I look back at old pictures, I cringe. Mostly because I had no idea what I was doing way back when. I'm mostly self taught {I did take photography back in college, about *ahem* 11 or so years ago} but hey, that was with Photoshop 7 and a film camera. And an 18 year-old attention span. I try to keep up with online tutorials, and get advice from other photographers, as I assume most other photographers do too.
Now, typically we shoot children, newborns and family. Weddings generally happen in the summer months, and on weekends, so they don't happen quite as often, so we shoot more of the family stuff.
Which means I don't get to do a lot of funky editing. And that's where it's at for me. The different, either over saturated, under saturated, funky vintage, retro, off beat editing. I live for it. Most parents tend to shy away from that stuff, which is fine, because I also like really vibrant pictures too.
But who doesn't like a good 70's style edit? C'mon.
(ps. Happy 1 year to Becca & Jase)
I love it. You may not. That's okay. Don't read my blog.
Kidding. read it just keep your opinions to yourself.
Here is that same picture, but SOOC (Straight out of Camera)
Still cute. A bit flat. A bit dark, and yes I notice that spot on her head. But I like it there. I like sun spots and sun flares. That's just how I roll.
I just think my funky 70's version is a bit more fun
I get bored easily and don't like rules all that much. But when editing for people who are paying me to take their picture, I can't really go buck wild. So, I do with my own kids pictures. Because what are they going to say really?
Here is a pic I took in June of Abby
This is my typical run of the mill, colour pop. Cute pic.
BORING to me.
so....I played around
This look is cute. She's a bit white and ghostish, but I wasn't going for realism here. Just fun.
Now, this is more like it. I like this one.
And then, just because everyone likes a good Black and White
Here's one with a bit of Silver for good measure.

No, I'm not pregnant.
Thought it was a catchy blog title.
Yesterday Nick had his first day off in 14 days. I was happy. So was he. And so were the kids, because last night was their Pizza-Q/meet the teacher night at their school. I didn't bring the camera to that though, because well, I forgot.
But I did (much to Nick's dismay) remember to bring it out for breakfast.
I was trying to capture how much they look a like. But her crazy huge eyes throw it off.
And now that I look closer, maybe they don't have the same mouth. Hers is down turned like mine. Of course, I don't have a picture of me holding her, because I'm the one with the camera.
Anyways, this was the first time Nevaeh has actually been able to join us at breakfast. Join, as in, actually eat real food, not gross baby cereal.
She downed her bottle
Then went to town on the good stuff. Waffles with Bananas. Gotta love Coras.
One thing is for sure, she likes her food like her daddy.
See?

Every time I've been pregnant, I've secretly (or not so secretly) wished for a little curly haired baby. Obviously a HEALTHY curly haired baby because I'm not that vain.
am i?
Madison, Abigail and Emma-Lee were all born with a TON of hair. I'd show pics, but I'm way too lazy busy to scan and post. And oh ya my scanner is broken.
Anyways, they were all born with thick dark hair. Madison kept the hair, but it went lighter, to her dirty blonde colour. Abby's all fell out but then came back thick and dark brown, and Mimi was the same as Mady.
And then came Nevaeh. My only bald baby.
Poor thing.
There's been great debate on her hair colour. Will it be red like her dads beard? Will it be brown like mine? Black like the mailman's?
Who knew? She had no hair to speak off. Just fuzz.
Until now. and will it be straight or curly? that's the question .....Tanya says no - it will be bone straight. ( I think she says this to get my goat). I say curly .
See....
And I say she'll be pretty blonde...maybe with a strawberry tinge?
That's a little curl right??
See the flippies? OMG so excited.
Either way, I'll still love her. Even with straight hair I guess. Who couldn't love this face?

This is my first time entering. The theme this week caught my attention. I live for candid shots. They are the cats meow and my most favourite thing about photography. Especially Wedding Photography. This shot I captured during speeches. I was hiding in a corner behind the head table. Usually I shoot infront the head table, but there was a window right behind and it gave off great light, and I was able to capture the Bride and Groom laughing at the Best Man's Speech.
I'm sure you did.
We'll, I've been in Photoshop Hell for the past week. And now that I can finally see the light I figured I should blog.
I'd like to issue an appolgy to the following:
My sister: Sorry you haven't gotten your daily neice fix.
Nevaeh: sorry mommy has been so busy
Merlin: Sorry you haven't been properly walked all week. You're luck you've been fed
Yes, I just said that.
Nick: Sorry your dirty socks are still on the floor. They'll get washed one day
My lawn: Sorry you haven't been mowed. Meh, it's almost fall. You'll get mowed AFTER the snow
My Stove: I will use you again one day I swear. Take out is just so convenient at the moment
My Bank Account: Sorry it's the beginning of school. Hence the reason so much money is coming out but not going back in. After hot lunches, insurance (whole other post on this one), new clothes, dance registration, sparks registration, and Guides registration. I think you're just about cleaned out.....just wait till Christmas :S
Umm.... I think I've got it all? Oh wait, Pictures.
Blogging without pictures is just wrong.
So here you go:
These are the only non-client pictures I've taken in one week. Yes, I'm a good mother.

Splish splish, I was takin' a bath
Long about a
A rub-a-dub, just relaxin' in the tub
Thinkin' everything was alright
Well, I stepped out the tub, put my feet on the floor
I wrapped the towel around me and I
Opened the door, and then I
Splish, splash... I jumped back in the bath.
Well how was I to know there was a party going on?
Yesterday we had a big family BBQ at my parents house. Thankfully, the weather cooperated and we had the perfect sunny day. This summer has sucked big time for Sun.
We were celebrating late birthdays on my Moms side of the family. My Cousin Amanda turned 19 in July. (this makes me feel crazy old)
We also celebrated my Cousin Jake's Birthday, and he's 15. I however, didnt get any pic's of Jacob, and have no clue why. Him and Abby avoided me the whole day I guess LOL
Also, this was Madison's turn to celebrate with Family. So her 4th Birthday party in a month.
All in all was a fun day, with tons of food (and wine)....
Sarah, Amanda, and Jerzy (sarah's BF)
Russ in the hottub with the kids. Oh look, a pic of Abby, eating her goggles. Lovely. And I did manage one of Jacob, that's the back of his head.
This was Mady waiting for something. Can't remember what. I try and block her attitude out
The piaya that everyone ate. Well, not me. I don't do muscles. Gross.
I guess I could have picked them out as I do like Shrimp and lobster and rice.
But I'm a baby, so sue me.
I ate these instead. Huge Sausages.
That's what she said
Sorry. Had a 16 year old moment there. I'm back now.
Mimi "suntanned'
and I'm very happy with this shot I got of Nevaeh
Nick got a pretty good one too...
the he spent some quality time with Nevaeh...before she was cranky and went to bed
and then we had a camp fire, where we all roasted marshmellows, and my pics turned outlike crap because I didn't bring my flash with me.
But I did get one okay one of Matt:
Mimi(sitting on Carol-anne's knee): Wow Matt that's a big one
Matt: That's what Carol-Anne said.
